Become the confident, capable leader you want to be.

Stepping into a leadership role is not just a change in job title, it’s a shift in how people see you and what they expect from you. And no-one prepares you for the adjustment.

I have been there and know what it feels like. Now I help arts and purpose-driven managers learn to lead people with confidence, navigate the pressures of management and grow their careers, without losing who they are in the process.

Regan Forrest, leadership coach for arts and purpose-driven managers

Being good at your old job doesn't prepare you to lead people.

You knew your old job inside out, with expertise built over years of work and study. Then you got promoted, and suddenly you're responsible for other people.

The stakes are higher now. You're managing competing expectations, difficult conversations, performance issues, personalities, priorities and pressure, often without anyone ever teaching you how.

You might be asking yourself:

Question

How do I hold someone accountable without micromanaging?

Question

Where should I actually be putting my time and energy?

Question

How do I manage expectations from above and below?

Question

How do I become a stronger leader without losing sight of my values?

Doing more of the same won't help. You need a different toolkit.

Without the right leadership capability, managers end up carrying too much themselves, avoiding hard conversations, second-guessing decisions, and reacting instead of leading. Eventually, that affects more than just them. It affects their team, their performance, and their career.

Leadership is a skill you can develop. You're more capable than you think.

Imagine feeling as confident leading people as you once felt doing the work:

Understanding your leadership style and owning your strengths

Walking into a difficult conversation without a sleepless night beforehand

Knowing what to focus on, and what to let go of

Fostering a culture of honesty and accountability that holds even when you're not in the room

Feeling ready the moment the next opportunity arises

How to get there

Becoming a more skilled and confident leader starts with knowing who you are and the values that drive you.

01

Become the leader

The most important leadership skill is self-awareness. What's your working style? Your strengths and values? The purpose that drives you? Understanding these is how you build an authentic leadership identity.

02

Take control of the role

Move out of reactive mode, where the job feels like constant firefighting. Shift from doing everything yourself to leading others. Create the space to think ahead, manage competing priorities, and focus on what matters, not just what's landed in your inbox.

03

Lead people effectively

Build the skills to communicate, delegate, influence, give feedback, create accountability, and navigate the hardest people situations.

The result?

> CONFIDENT, CAPABLE LEADERSHIP

Wherever you are in your leadership journey, there's a next step.

Start with the Foundations

Most new managers get zero training for their new responsibilities. Leadership Essentials for Museum, Arts and Non-Profit Managers fills that gap. Over six weekly online sessions in small peer groups, you'll learn key leadership concepts and work through case studies drawn from real-world museum experience, building a practical toolkit you can start using immediately.

Develop as a Leader

Even the most experienced leaders benefit from extra guidance, support and accountability. Through 1:1 coaching, sharpen your leadership skills, work through a specific workplace challenge, or map out your ideal next career step.

Develop your Leaders

Workshops and programs that help leaders and their teams work better together. As a certified 6 Types of Working Genius® facilitator, I use this framework to help teams unlock their distinctive talents, spot blind spots, and identify what's blocking their best work. Choose a standard two- or four-hour workshop, or a tailored program built for your organisation.

Why me?

Because I've been there. I know what it's like to go from an expert individual contributor to second-guessing every move as a leader. I've led teams through tough times and learned a lot the hard way, combining formal study and plenty of self-directed trial and error.

What I found is this: you don't have to pretend to be someone you're not to be a credible leader. The best leaders are the ones who know who they are and what they stand for. They're not the loudest voice or the toughest person in the room. They communicate clearly, use influence wisely, and know how to bring out the best in others.

What people say

“I recommend Essentials to anyone in the museum sector, whether new to a leadership role or more experienced. I've done a number of professional development and leadership programs, all beneficial, but often generic. This course was so relevant to the museum and collections sector, and Regan's breadth of experience made the content relatable and genuinely useful.”

“It's so rare to find museum-specific leadership and management advice! This course was informative and validating. The content was relevant, and I could apply the concepts directly to my workplace.”

"I'd recently moved into a leadership role, and Essentials was incredibly valuable. It gave me practical resources and real clarity on where I want to focus as I keep developing as a leader. The content felt highly relevant to the museum and cultural sector, with thoughtful insights throughout from Regan's executive experience, and it was a great chance to connect with peers from across Australia."

"Essentials gave me the structured time I needed to think deeply about management issues, so that when they inevitably crop up, I can rely on strategic skills I've developed rather than reacting in the moment."

“Essentials is great for current and aspiring managers alike. It gave me real insight into how goals shift as you move up through an organisation, and a framework to demonstrate my readiness for promotion.”
